Indonesian National Team Qualifies for 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Final After Crushing Bangladesh 9-2

Aceh – Indonesia, The Indonesian national team secured a spot in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup final following a decisive 9-2 victory over Bangladesh in their final Group A match at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on Thursday night, October 1, 2026.

This resounding win allowed the Garuda squad to finish the group stage with seven points from three matches, recording two victories and one draw.

In another Group A fixture, Malaysia also earned a major victory by defeating Singapore 6-0 at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung. That result placed Malaysia on seven points as well, tied with Indonesia.

Both Indonesia and Malaysia finished with an identical goal difference of +9. However, Indonesia claimed top spot by virtue of goals scored, tallying 11 goals compared to Malaysia’s nine.

Consequently, Indonesia finished as Group A winners and earned the right to compete in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup final, scheduled for October 5 at SUGBK.

Indonesia’s First-Half Goal Fest

Indonesia applied intense pressure right from the opening whistle. Mitchell Baker emerged as the standout performer of the match, netting five goals.

Baker opened the scoring for Indonesia in the 11th minute before adding further goals in the 20th, 37th, and 42nd minutes. Rizky Ridho also etched his name onto the scoresheet in the 32nd minute.

Bangladesh briefly reduced the deficit through Shahriar Emon in the 36th minute. However, Indonesia retained firm control over the match, with Justin Hubner extending the lead in stoppage time (45+1′).

The first half concluded with Indonesia comfortably leading 6-1.

Heading into the second half, Indonesia maintained their attacking intensity. Baker completed his five-goal haul, while Luke Vickery and Kevin Diks added late goals during injury time.

Bangladesh managed another consolation goal through Farhaan Ali Wahid, but Indonesia ultimately wrapped up a dominant 9-2 victory.

Malaysia Defeats Singapore 6-0

In the other Group A clash, Malaysia delivered a dominant performance to overcome Singapore 6-0.

Bergson starred for Malaysia with a hat-trick, including an 8th-minute penalty. The remaining three goals were scored by Stuart Wilkin, Paulo Josué, and Syahir Bashah.

The win brought Malaysia’s group tally to seven points, while Singapore and Bangladesh were officially eliminated from the competition.

Prior to the final matchday, both Indonesia and Malaysia were tied on four points. Both sides won their respective final fixtures to reach seven points. FIFA had previously noted that Indonesia and Malaysia held the top spots in Group A heading into the decider, with Singapore just one point behind.

Indonesia Advances to October 5 Final

Indonesia will next feature in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup final on October 5 at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

The 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup marks the inaugural edition of the tournament, bringing together ASEAN nations alongside invited guest teams. Indonesia serves as a Division 1 host together with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.

As Group A champions, Indonesia earns direct qualification to the final match. Meanwhile, the Group A runners-up will contend in the third-place playoff against the runners-up from Group B.
