POPULARITAS.COM – Flooding in Southeast Aceh Regency, Aceh, continues to expand following relentless heavy rainfall in the region. Water currents carried wooden debris that clogged several bridges, causing embankments to burst and water to overflow into residential areas.
Numerous villages have been hit again by the floods. The affected areas include Pulonas Baru Village in Lawe Bulan District, Kota Kutacane Village in Babussalam District, Terutung Negara Lawe Pasaran Village in Lawe Sumur District, and Terutung Seperai Village in Bambel District.
Water levels in several locations have reached over 1 meter. This condition has rendered four-wheeled vehicles unable to traverse a number of flood-affected road sections.
A resident of Kota Kutacane, Muhammad Alfatra, stated that floods have occurred repeatedly. According to him, one of the main causes is wooden debris getting caught on low-clearance bridges.
“This is yet another flood caused by low bridges, which trap wooden debris carried by the water, forcing the flow to spill over into residential areas,” Alfatra told Beritasatu.com on Saturday (26/9/2026) night.
Residents hope the local government will take immediate action to clear the blockages and repair the infrastructure deemed to be triggering the floods.
“Hopefully, the local government will promptly deploy heavy equipment to dredge the river and dismantle the bridges that frequently trigger flooding,” he expressed.
Amidst these conditions, residents have joined forces to clean up the wooden debris carried by currents that clogged the water flow around bridges. These collective efforts were carried out to help restore water flow and reduce the impact of the flood.
Due to the overflowing water, many residents’ homes were inundated. Some residents whose houses were affected chose to stay, while others evacuated to relatives’ homes.
The widespread flooding continues to disrupt daily activities for residents across several areas in Southeast Aceh.
Emergency response efforts and monitoring of the flood conditions remain ongoing alongside weather developments and water flow levels.
