Aceh – Indonesia, President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated Bahlil Lahadalia as Coordinating Minister for Downstream Industry and Energy Transition, concurrently serving alongside his existing role as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
Bahlil’s appointment to his new position was based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 104/P/2026. “Presidential Decree Number 104/P/2026 regarding the dismissal and appointment of ministers and deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period,” stated Deputy for Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of State Secretariat, Nanik Purwanti, while reading the decree.
“Appointing as ministers and deputy ministers of the Red and White Cabinet for the remainder of the 2024-2029 term. First, Bahlil Lahadalia as Coordinating Minister for Downstream Industry and Energy Transition,” she added.
After the presidential decree was read, Bahlil along with other ministers and officials recited the oath of office guided by President Prabowo Subianto.
Prior to his appointment as coordinating minister, Bahlil had served as Minister of ESDM since August 2024. He also previously had experience as Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) under President Joko Widodo’s administration.
This new assignment allows Bahlil to continue managing the energy sector while taking on coordination tasks related to downstreaming and the energy transition.
Previously, the government also placed the acceleration of downstreaming as one of the strategic agendas to increase the added value of domestic natural resources.
According to the official Ministry of ESDM website, Bahlil Lahadalia was born in the Banda Islands, Maluku, on August 7, 1976. Before entering government, he was known as an entrepreneur and was active in young entrepreneurs’ organizations.
His business career eventually led him to the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI). Bahlil previously served as General Chairman of BPP HIPMI before joining the government.
On October 1, 2026, Bahlil received a new assignment as Coordinating Minister for Downstream Industry and Energy Transition. In this position, Bahlil continues to concurrently serve as Minister of ESDM. Reports regarding the inauguration mentioned that Bahlil was officially sworn in by President Prabowo on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Bahlil’s placement in this role brings downstreaming and energy transition affairs under a single scope of coordination alongside the energy sector, which has been his responsibility as ESDM Minister.
Previously, President Prabowo had also emphasized the acceleration of downstreaming as a strategic agenda to boost the added value of natural resources, strengthen investment, and generate greater economic benefits domestically.
