Aceh’s Exports Drop 11.94 Percent in August 2026, Trade Deficit Reaches USD 8.67 Million

Aceh – Indonesia, The export value of goods from Aceh Province in August 2026 reached USD 74.00 million, marking an 11.94 percent drop compared to July 2026, which stood at USD 84.04 million.

During the same period, Aceh’s import value increased by 0.96 percent to USD 82.67 million. Consequently, Aceh’s foreign trade balance recorded a deficit of USD 8.67 million in August 2026.

Head of BPS Aceh Province, Agus Andria, stated that Aceh’s export value in August 2026 reached USD 74 million, reflecting an 11.94 percent decline from the previous month.

β€œThe value of exports from Aceh Province in August 2026 stood at USD 74.00 million, falling 11.94 percent compared to July 2026. Meanwhile, imports entering Aceh reached USD 82.67 million, up by approximately 0.96 percent from July 2026. As a result, Aceh Province’s foreign trade balance in August 2026 experienced a deficit of USD 8.67 million,” he explained during a BPS Aceh press conference, as quoted by Nukilan on Friday (2/10/2026).

All of Aceh’s exports in August 2026 consisted of non-oil and gas commodities. Despite the month-on-month decline, this figure represents a 29.54 percent increase compared to August 2025, which recorded USD 57.13 million.

Coal remained the largest export commodity, valued at USD 44.08 million and accounting for 59.56 percent of total exports. Animal and vegetable fats and oils followed at USD 14.16 million (19.14 percent), along with coffee and spices valued at USD 12.90 million (17.43 percent).

In terms of destination countries, India emerged as Aceh’s largest export market, totaling USD 56.34 million or 76.14 percent of total exports. Primary commodities shipped to India included coal, CPO, and various chemical products. The United States was the second-largest destination at USD 7.85 million, mainly driven by coffee and spice exports.

By business sector, Aceh’s exports were heavily dominated by the mining sector, valued at USD 44.20 million or 59.73 percent of total exports. Exports from the processing industry reached USD 15.90 million, while the agricultural sector accounted for USD 13.90 million.

On the import side, the primary commodities brought into Aceh were propane and butane gas valued at USD 76.06 million, followed by inorganic chemicals at USD 3.89 million, and mechanical machinery/appliances at USD 2.71 million.

BPS also recorded that the majority of goods exported from Aceh in August 2026 shipped through local ports. This amounted to USD 59.19 million, or 79.99 percent of total exports, while the remaining USD 14.80 million was shipped via ports in other provinces. Out-of-province shipments were mostly routed through North Sumatra, totaling USD 14.63 million.

Cumulatively through August 2026, Aceh’s total exports reached USD 524.76 million against total imports of USD 461.41 million. Therefore, Aceh’s cumulative trade balance maintains a surplus of USD 63.35 million. []
