Aceh – Indonesia, Police have uncovered a fatal assault case that led to the death of a man in Sawang District, North Aceh Regency. The suspect, identified as MS (30), alias Amat, was apprehended by police roughly three hours after the incident.
The crime occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at around 2:00 PM WIB, at a riverside food stall in Kuta Bate Hamlet, Sawang Village, Sawang District, North Aceh.
The victim was identified as Muhammad Nasir (33), a resident of Cot Kawat Hamlet, Sawang Village. Meanwhile, the suspect is a resident of Cot Buloh Hamlet, Blang Teurakan Village, Sawang District.
This was announced by Lhokseumawe Police Chief Police Grand Attendant Dr. Ahzan, accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Police Attendant Iswahyudi and Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Police Commissioner Officer Dr. Boestani, during a press conference on Monday (10/5) afternoon.
The Police Chief stated that according to police records handling the case, the altercation began when the victim and the suspect engaged in a verbal argument regarding the transport fee for loading sand into a vehicle.
The dispute escalated into violence. The suspect reportedly picked up a stone and threw it at the victim, who was seated at the time.
The thrown stone reportedly missed the victim. However, the suspect then approached the victim and struck him on the right side of his neck.
“During the incident, the victim tried to stand up and retaliate. However, the suspect landed a second punch to the right side of the victim’s neck,” Ahzan said.
Ultimately, the blow knocked the victim to the ground, rendering him helpless.
The victim was rushed to the Sawang District Community Health Center (Puskesmas) for medical treatment. However, doctors were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead.
Suspect Fled the Scene
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene. Police received reports from the public and immediately launched an investigation.
The Resmob Team from the Lhokseumawe Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrived at the crime scene to perform a crime scene investigation (CSI) and collect evidence, as well as gather information regarding the suspect’s identity.
Based on initial investigation results, police received information that the suspect had fled toward Pinto Weu, Muara Batu District, North Aceh.
Officers then received further intel that the suspect was located in Cot Keumuneng Village, Sawang District.
The Resmob Team promptly moved to the location and arrested the suspect at a resident’s house in Cot Keumuneng Village.
“The suspect was successfully apprehended at around 8:00 PM WIB, roughly three hours after police received the initial information on his whereabouts,” explained the Police Chief.
Following his arrest, MS was brought to the Lhokseumawe Police Station for further investigation.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 466 Paragraph (3) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning aggravated assault resulting in death.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 12 years in prison.
Police also secured several pieces of physical evidence, including a river stone, a black t-shirt, a pair of black trousers, and a medical examiner’s report (visum et repertum).
The case remains under investigation to further examine the sequence of events, motive, and evidence related to the victim’s death.(arm/ra)
