POPULARITAS.COM – Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh, Taufik, received an audience from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in his office on Monday (9/28/2026).
The meeting discussed strengthening synergy in providing weather, climate, and disaster information to support the preparedness of the Aceh Provincial Government and the public.
In his directives, Taufik stated that collaboration with BMKG needs to be continually reinforced so that information regarding weather developments and potential disasters can serve as a basis for taking anticipatory measures. He noted that such information is crucial for the public to heighten vigilance against various potential disasters, particularly hydrometeorological events.
“Information like this is crucial, especially for the public. We also continuously provide preparedness updates to regencies/cities as part of our duty. Therefore, we require advice and input from relevant parties,” said Taufik.
During the occasion, Head of the Sultan Iskandar Muda Class I Meteorological Station and Coordinator of BMKG Technical Implementation Units in Aceh Province, Cucu Kusmanyancu, reported on upcoming weather conditions in Aceh, including the potential transition into the rainy season.
He also expressed appreciation for the Aceh Provincial Government’s proactive steps in issuing a preparedness decree for the next three months to anticipate potential hydrometeorological disasters.
Beyond weather forecasts, BMKG presented several initiatives to strengthen observation systems and disaster preparedness in Aceh. These include the inauguration of a High Frequency (HF) Radar to monitor wave height, currents, winds, and tsunami potential in the Sabang Strait, as well as the construction of weather radar and supporting equipment under the national priority program for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in 2025.
BMKG also plans to conduct Joint Field Schools at five locations, encompassing the Fishermen Weather Field School (SLCN), Climate Field School (SLI), and Earthquake and Tsunami Field School (SLG). These programs aim to enhance public understanding and resilience against risks related to weather, climate, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
