Aceh – Indonesia, Several leaders of friendly nations from the Arab region expressed their condolences to the people and Government of Indonesia over the tragic sinking of KMP Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea.
According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), King Salman of Saudi Arabia extended his condolences directly to President Prabowo Subianto. Quoting Antara on Monday (28/9/2026), King Salman conveyed his deep condolences and sympathy to President Prabowo, the bereaved families of the victims, and the people of Indonesia.
Expressions of sorrow were also conveyed by Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman to President Prabowo. Aside from Saudi Arabia, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, also offered his condolences to President Prabowo on Friday (26/9/2026).
In his message, Sheikh Tamim expressed solidarity with the victims of the KMP Virgo Transport 8 tragedy and wished a speedy recovery for all those injured.
QNA also reported that Deputy Emir of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani sent similar messages to President Prabowo and the people of Indonesia.
Deep condolences were also expressed by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman to President Prabowo following the sinking of KMP Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea.
“In his message, His Majesty expressed his deep sympathy to President Prabowo, the people of Indonesia, and the families of the victims, while wishing those injured a swift recovery,” read a statement from Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman, as reported by the Oman News Agency.
Previously, KMP Virgo Transport 8 was reported to have lost contact in the Masalembo Waters, off Java, on Sunday (13/9/2026) at around 02:00 WITA before eventually sinking. The vessel, carrying 243 passengers and crew, sank while en route from Surabaya to Banjarmasin.
Based on Basarnas data as of Saturday (26/9/2026) at 19:00 WITA, a total of 172 of the 243 passengers and crew members have been found, consisting of 108 survivors and 64 deceased, while 71 others remain missing.
