Aceh – Indonesia, First Vice Chairman of KONI Aceh T Rayuan Sukma stated that the sport of pickleball can become a official KONI member once it successfully establishes 14 regional branches and hosts a provincial championship.
This was conveyed by the First Vice Chairman for Organizational Affairs, Teuku Rayuan Sukma, representing the General Chairman of KONI Aceh, during the opening of the inaugural Aceh Pickleball Provincial Championship at the Aceh Distanbun Court on Sunday morning (4/10/2026).
Rayuan revealed that these requirements adopt the regulations set by the Central KONI.
According to him, eight sports branches, including pickleball, have currently registered for KONI Aceh membership. The determination and ratification of membership will be finalized during the KONI Aceh Provincial Working Conference (Rakerprov) scheduled for early January 2027.
“I urge all registered sports branches to immediately fulfill the aforementioned requirements before they are discussed, determined, and ratified at the KONI Aceh Rakerprov in January 2027,” Rayuan stated.
He explained that as a new sport, pickleball must meet two absolute conditions. First, it must have regional management boards covering 50 percent plus one of Aceh’s 23 regencies and cities.
“Today, the Pickleball Provincial Board already has 15 regional branches, which is one more than the minimum requirement, and has conducted its inaugural provincial championship that I personally opened. Thus, pickleball has met the criteria to become a KONI Aceh member,” said the former Head of the Aceh Youth and Sports Service (Kadispora).
Second, the sport must demonstrate its active existence by organizing a provincial championship (Kejurda).
Rayuan emphasized that hosting a provincial championship is no easy task. It requires organizational readiness, athlete preparation, strong unity among regency and city administrators, and support from various parties to ensure the event runs smoothly. The Aceh Pickleball Provincial Board has successfully proven this capability.
On that occasion, Rayuan Sukma also commended the seriousness of the Aceh Pickleball Provincial Board in expanding its organization and fostering athletic achievement.
“My instinct tells me that pickleball will thrive, as it already enjoys facility support and a growing community of pickleball enthusiasts in Aceh,” he added. (*)
