Aceh – Indonesia, Rocky Gerung was inaugurated as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) by President Prabowo Subianto. Rocky explained that his new role is to provide strategic counsel to ensure government policies align with the President’s vision.

“The President gave a special message that the Advisory Council holds an ethical position, not a technical one. An ethical position means the capacity to foresee the side effects of policies and offer counsel on their direction so they remain consistent with the President’s vision. That is the council’s normative function,” Rocky said after the inauguration at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (10/2/2026).

“We oversee the direction of policy to ensure it fulfills the campaign promises and matches the overarching themes envisioned by the President,” he added.

On the other hand, Rocky noted that Wantimpres also fulfills a political function, such as monitoring the political landscape for the President’s strategic interest.

“Naturally, there is a more political function—monitoring political and cultural situations. Everything discussed within the Council is rooted in the individual ethical responsibility of each member, not group interests,” he stated.

Furthermore, Rocky clarified that Wantimpres is not meant to address daily operational queries for the President.

Instead, the council relies on its capacity to oversee, monitor, and evaluate government programs simultaneously.

“It functions like an oversight committee in a corporation. However, since this involves public affairs, expertise is essential, sharp instincts are vital, and most importantly, we must point out without hesitation any public misperceptions of power and how power can reshape those perceptions positively for the nation,” he said.

It is reported that President Prabowo inaugurated several figures as Wantimpres members today, including Rocky Gerung.(*)
