Aceh – Indonesia, Chairman of the Bustanul Arifin Islamic Education College (STIT) in Bener Meriah, Tgk. Yusrol Hana, S.Pd.I., M.H.I., featured as a speaker at the ICISSS 2026 International Seminar in Malaysia on Saturday (3/10/2026).

Held in a hybrid format both in-person and online, the seminar served as a platform for academics and participants from various countries to exchange ideas, particularly on issues related to education, Islamic studies, and strengthening the role of higher education institutions.

During the forum, Yusrol Hana presented a paper titled “Determining Fatwas in Aceh from the Perspective of Maqashid al-Shariah.” He emphasized the importance of applying the Maqashid al-Shariah approach—the core objectives of Islamic law—in the fatwa-making process, ensuring legal rulings are not solely grounded in textual interpretations but also account for public welfare and evolving societal issues.

“The key point we presented is that issuing a fatwa in Islamic law must be guided by the fundamental objectives of Sharia law, or Maqashid al-Shariah,” Yusrol stated.

According to him, understanding the core purpose of Islamic law is a vital aspect of issuing fatwas. This approach is expected to help yield Islamic legal decisions that remain rooted in Sharia principles while staying responsive to community needs.

“This is intended to make fatwas more inclusive, relevant, and aligned with the contemporary needs of the Muslim community,” he added.

Beyond providing a venue to present academic research, the international seminar facilitated knowledge and experience sharing among scholars and higher education institutions worldwide.

Discussions at the forum also highlighted student capacity building through experiential learning, cross-institutional collaboration, and direct community engagement.

For STIT Bustanul Arifin, the chairman’s participation in this international academic forum represents a strategic effort to expand its academic network and introduce Islamic studies from Aceh to a broader global scholarly community.

This involvement also offers regional academics an opportunity to contribute to transnational scholarly dialogue, particularly regarding the development of Islamic legal thought focused on public welfare. I Gona
