Blangpidie – A tornado blew off the roof and wooden support beams of a house belonging to Budiati, 46, a resident of Gampong Ladang Tuha I, Lembah Sabil District, Southwest Aceh (Abdya), on Saturday (26/09/2026) at around 2:30 PM WIB.
At the time of the incident, Budiati, a widow, was living with her three children. She spotted the whirlwind moving from the sea before hitting her home. The strong winds then lifted the roof and several supporting beams of the building.
Budiati stood frozen in shock during the event. Her two young children then pulled her hands to escape safely to the front of the house.
The Village Head (Keuchik) of Gampong Ladang Tuha I, Andri, confirmed the incident. According to him, the damage was isolated to Budiati’s home, despite several other houses being located nearby.
“It’s true. The roof of her room was blown away. We were also surprised that only her house was hit, given there are many other homes around it,” Andri stated when contacted on Saturday (26/09/2026) evening.
Andri mentioned that Budiati has three children. The eldest has just entered college, the second is a first-year student at MTsN 2 Abdya, while the youngest is still attending MIN.
The village government has reported the incident to the sub-district authorities. Members of the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) have also visited the site to assess the condition of the house.
However, according to Andri, no emergency repairs or assistance have been implemented yet. Budiati’s family has not evacuated, as there are still usable rooms left for temporary shelter.
“The family was not evacuated because there is still a functional room left,” Andri added.
Reporters have reached out to the Acting Chief Executive of BPBD Abdya, Mukhsin, for a statement regarding the disaster response. As of the time of publication, there has been no response. []
