Aceh – Indonesia, Floods have struck several areas in Aceh Singkil Regency over the past three days. In addition to submerging roads and residential areas, the inundation has completely severed two bridges in Kuta Simboling Village, Singkil District.
Head of the Aceh Singkil Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Alhusni, stated that flooding affected five villages across three districts: Rantau Gedang, Pea Bumbung, and Kuta Simboling Villages in Singkil District; Samardua Village in Kuta Baharu District; and Suka Jaya Village in Kuala Baru District.
He explained that the flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall over recent days, causing river water levels to rise and overflow onto roads and residential areas.
In Kuta Simboling Village, two bridges were reported to be completely destroyed. To mitigate disruption to daily activities, BPBD deployed a Rapid Response Team (TRC) and two polyethylene boats to set up a temporary crossing for residents.
Meanwhile, several road access points remain submerged. The connecting road from Rantau Gedang Village to the center of Singkil District is still inundated by about 30 centimeters of water.
“A similar situation is occurring on the disaster mitigation road in Pea Bumbung Village. Water logging of about 30 centimeters continues to cover the road, disrupting motorists’ activities,” he said.
In Samardua Village, Kuta Baharu District, road access has begun to open up for large vehicles. However, automatic motorcycles are still unable to pass through as the floodwaters have not fully receded.
Meanwhile, in Suka Jaya Village, Kuala Baru District, water levels are reported to be continuously rising. At least eight homes are currently surrounded by floodwaters reaching a height of around 30 centimeters.
Nevertheless, floodwaters have reportedly not entered the residents’ homes.
The Aceh Singkil BPBD is actively monitoring and coordinating efforts across affected areas. As of the latest report, there are no casualties or displaced residents.
Officials also continue to monitor water level trends and transport access for residents in impacted locations.***
