Aceh – Indonesia, The number of foreign tourist visits to Aceh Province reached 4,031 in August 2026. This figure marks a 42.04 percent increase compared to July 2026, though it remains a 6.56 percent decline compared to August 2025.
Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Aceh, Agus Andria, as quoted from the AJNN website, stated that the month-on-month rise in foreign tourist visits occurred amidst a declining trend in hotel occupancy rates and passenger transport numbers.
“In August 2026, the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) for starred hotels in Aceh stood at 26.04 percent, down 3.00 percentage points compared to July 2026, but up by 1.96 percentage points compared to August 2025,” Agus said on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, the occupancy rate for non-starred hotels and other accommodations in August 2026 was recorded at 18.47 percent. This represents a 1.46 percentage point drop from July 2026, but a 0.80 percentage point increase compared to August 2025.
In the air transport sector, the number of domestic flight passengers departing via Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport reached 21,941 people in August 2026.
This figure fell by 3.80 percent compared to July 2026. When compared to August 2025, domestic air passengers also experienced a decline of 4.32 percent.
A decrease was also recorded in international air travel. In August 2026, 10,037 passengers departed through Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport.
This number dropped 1.68 percent compared to July 2026 and slumped 15.63 percent compared to August 2025.
Meanwhile, for sea transport, the number of embarking passengers across all ports in Aceh reached 74,878 people in August 2026.
This represents a 32.04 percent decrease from July 2026. However, on an annual basis, sea transport passenger numbers actually grew by 1.71 percent compared to August 2025.
The data indicates that the surge in foreign tourist arrivals in August 2026 has not been fully accompanied by increased activity in the accommodation and transport sectors.
On a monthly basis, foreign tourist visits rose significantly, whereas hotel occupancy rates as well as air and sea passenger numbers saw a decline.
