Aceh – Indonesia, The drums of democracy for the PWI Aceh Conference have sounded. This highest forum at the provincial level is becoming increasingly dynamic, opening up wide democratic space.
Most recently, the Steering Committee (SC) for the 13th PWI Aceh Provincial Conference has established requirements and opened registration for prospective candidates for the Chairman of PWI Aceh and the Chairman of the PWI Aceh Provincial Honor Council (DKP) for the 2026-2031 period.
“Registration for prospective candidates for Chairman of PWI Aceh and Chairman of the DKP for the 2026-2031 Period is officially open from Monday, October 5 to October 24, 2026,” stated the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the XIII PWI Aceh Provincial Conference, Azwani Awi, on Sunday (10/4/2026).
He explained that the decision to begin the screening process for prospective candidates for Chairman of PWI Aceh and the DKP was made after the Steering Committee held a finalization meeting at the PWI Aceh Office on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The meeting was attended by all SC members, including Chairman Azwani Awi; Secretary Iranda Novandi; Imran Joni (Candidate Verification Working Group), Safriadi (Final Voters List Working Group), and Azhari Usman (Session Quorum Working Group).
“Based on the results of the finalization meeting, candidate screening officially opens on Monday, October 5, 2026. This means that starting that day, prospective candidates can register and pick up registration forms,” said Popon, as Azwani Awi is familiarly called.
10 Percent Support Requirement
Popon mentioned that based on the Articles of Association/Bylaws (PD/PRT) and Organizational Regulation (PO) Number 1 of 2026 issued by the Central PWI, one of the primary requirements for registering prospective candidates is securing initial support from at least 10 percent of the total Final Voters List (DPT) for the Provincial Conference.
Referring to the current Provisional Voters List (DPS), the number of voters for the PWI Aceh Provincial Conference, scheduled for the third week of November 2026, stands at 320. Thus, to register, prospective candidates must secure support from a minimum of 32 full members of PWI Aceh.
The support letters must be signed directly by the supporters and accompanied by a photocopy of their blue PWI card (regular PWI card).
Other Requirements
Meanwhile, for re-registration requirements, prospective candidates must attach a photocopy of their Principal Competency Certificate and Card, as well as a statement letter certifying that they are not involved or active as administrators of a political party.
Additional requirements include submitting a curriculum vitae, providing two color passport-sized photos (4×6), attaching a statement letter from their employer press company, providing a decree (SK) of PWI management at either the provincial or regency/city level, and agreeing to sign an integrity pact.
“Other requirements that must be fulfilled can be reviewed during registration,” Popon explained.
He added that prospective candidates are required to register in person and personally collect the forms and registration requirements. For prospective candidates who register and collect forms through a campaign team, they must include a mandate letter, or the person collecting it must be listed in the candidate’s official campaign team decree.
“The registered prospective candidates will later be sent to the Central PWI for re-verification and official endorsement as candidates,” Popon clarified.
Dual Support
Popon emphasized that in accordance with PO/PWI Number 1 of 2026, every full member of PWI b-2031.
If dual support is found, that endorsement will be declared void, and the prospective candidate must replace it with support from another full PWI member.
“During the verification phase of candidacy documents and endorsements, any dual support found will be declared invalid. This aligns with the latest PWI Organizational Regulation,” he said. (M.H)
