BANDA ACEH – An academic from the Faculty of Law, Syiah Kuala University, Saifuddin Bantasyam, stated that anti-bullying education is vital as it helps students identify bullying behaviors both online and in the real world. Teachers must also know how to respond to bullying behaviors, including various forms of bullying.
“Therefore, it is crucial for teachers to recognize the signs of bullying in students, such as sudden behavioral changes, reluctance to go to school, declining academic performance, or unexplained physical complaints,” Saifuddin said in a press release received by AJNN on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
He elaborated that teasing, threats, social exclusion, and physical violence are forms of bullying that both educators and students must understand. Moreover, the impact of such actions is not only short- and medium-term, but also poses long-term risks to students’ mental and emotional development.
He expressed hope that all parties—ranging from parents, teachers, and students to the broader community—would view bullying as a serious issue. This is because bullying can undermine students’ self-confidence and motivation within a learning environment that should ideally be safe.
The insights shared by Saifuddin Bantasyam were also part of the materials he presented during a Community Service (PKM) event conducted by the Faculty of Law, Syiah Kuala University, at SMAN 1 Lhoknga, Aceh Besar, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The activity was held to commemorate USK’s 65th Anniversary and took place across several sub-districts in Aceh Besar.
The FH USK PKM team comprised Prof. Ilyas Yunus, Nursiti, Ida Kemala Jeumpa, Roslaini, and Nurhafifah. They were all actively involved in guiding the students, who were divided into ten groups out of a total of 40 participants.
The Principal of SMAN 1 Lhoknga, Zikriah, warmly welcomed the FH USK PKM initiative. According to her, the theme of bullying and violence is highly relevant to current conditions.
“The momentum is indeed very timely. We hope the presence of the FH USK team goes beyond this PKM event alone, extending to other sessions so it can serve as a lasting legacy for SMAN 1 Lhoknga in preventing bullying and violence in the future,” Zikriah said.***
