BANDA ACEH | SAGOE TV – The Aceh Provincial Government is boosting its preparedness for the upcoming rainy season and potential hydrometeorological disasters through enhanced synergy with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). This initiative was discussed during an audience between BMKG officials and Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh, Taufik, at his office on Monday, September 28, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in delivering weather, climate, and disaster information to support disaster readiness for both the Aceh Government and the public.
Taufik emphasized that collaboration with BMKG must be continuously reinforced so that updates on weather developments and disaster risks can serve as a foundation for preventive measures.
He noted that such accurate information is crucial for the public to heighten their vigilance against potential hazards, particularly hydrometeorological disasters.
“This kind of information is vital, especially for the public. We also consistently disseminate preparedness advisories to regencies and cities as part of our duty. Therefore, we need input and recommendations from all relevant parties,” Taufik said.
During the meeting, Head of the Class I Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station and Coordinator of BMKG Technical Units in Aceh Province, Cucu Kusmanyancu, reported on Aceh’s upcoming weather outlook, including the transition into the rainy season.
He also commended the Aceh Provincial Government for issuing a three-month disaster preparedness advisory as part of its proactive strategy to mitigate hydrometeorological risks.
In addition to weather updates, BMKG presented several initiatives aimed at strengthening disaster monitoring and preparedness systems in Aceh. These include the inauguration of High Frequency (HF) Radar to monitor wave height, currents, winds, and tsunami risks in the Sabang Strait, alongside the installation of weather radars and auxiliary equipment as part of a national priority program for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in 2025.
Furthermore, BMKG plans to conduct Joint Field Schools across five locations, comprising the Fishermen’s Weather Field School (SLCN), the Climate Field School (SLI), and the Earthquake and Tsunami Field School (SLG).
These programs are expected to enhance public understanding and community resilience against risks associated with weather, climate, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
