Aceh – Indonesia, The House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia has approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), succeeding Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The approval was confirmed during the 8th Plenary Session of the DPR RI for the First Session Period of the 2026-2027 Legislative Year at the DPR RI Building in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
“We ask for approval regarding the appointment of Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as Kapolri. Is it approved?” asked DPR Speaker Puan Maharani during the plenary meeting.
The question was met with approval from the attending members of the House and followed by the ceremonial strike of the gavel.
The plenary meeting also approved the report from Commission III of the DPR RI concerning the discussion of the proposed honorable discharge of Listyo Sigit Prabowo from his position as Kapolri.
The decision was reached after the Chairman of Commission III, Habiburokhman, presented a report on the proposed dismissal and appointment of the National Police Chief, as well as the results of the fit and proper test conducted on Suyudi.
The proposal was outlined in a Presidential Letter (Surpres) delivered to the leadership of the DPR RI under reference number R57/Surpres/09/2026, dated September 30, 2026.
The fit and proper test for Suyudi was held after the leadership of the DPR received the letter from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief on September 30, 2026.
Prior to the plenary session, Commission III of the DPR unanimously approved Suyudi as the new Kapolri following the fit and proper test.
During his presentation, Suyudi put forward his vision titled “Polri Bersama Masyarakat” (National Police Together with the Community).
Suyudi’s Track Record
Suyudi Ario Seto is a 1994 graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol) with extensive experience in criminal investigation. Throughout his career, he has held various positions in criminal research and investigation, including roles in Resmob, Jatanras, and the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police.
Suyudi also served as Deputy Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Wakapolda Metro Jaya) from 2023 to 2024 and Chief of the Banten Regional Police (Kapolda Banten) from 2024 to 2025.
Following those roles, he served as the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) from August 2025 until September 30, 2026.
With this parliamentary confirmation, Suyudi Ario Seto becomes the approved candidate for National Police Chief to replace Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
