Aceh – Indonesia, The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) during the 8th Plenary Session of Session Period I for the 2026–2027 Legislative Year, Thursday (10/1/2026).
The approval served as the main agenda of the meeting following a fit and proper test conducted by House Commission III on Suyudi. Commission III had previously unanimously approved Suyudi to succeed Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
In Commission III’s report presented to the plenary session, Chairman of House Commission III Habiburokhman stated that Suyudi had outlined his vision and mission under the theme “Police with the Community Enforcing Asta Cita to Realize Indonesia 2045.”
“After hearing the views of all members of House Commission III and every faction present, House Commission III unanimously agreed and approved Police Comm. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto to become the National Police Chief,” Habiburokhman said during the plenary meeting, as quoted by Nukilan from the DPR RI YouTube channel on Thursday (10/1/2026).
During the session, the House then sought the agreement of assembly members regarding the honorable discharge of Listyo Sigit Prabowo from his position as National Police Chief. Following that, the meeting leadership asked for approval regarding the appointment of Suyudi Ario Seto as the new chief.
“Furthermore, we request approval for the appointment of Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, S., S.H., M.Si. as National Police Chief. Is it approved? Approved,” stated the meeting leader, which was followed by the agreement of DPR members.
The leadership transition within the Indonesian National Police (Polri) was based on a presidential letter concerning the proposed dismissal and appointment of the Police Chief. The plenary session noted that the leadership received the letter on September 30, 2026.
Habiburokhman noted that Commission III viewed the leadership change as a necessary step to strengthen the police institution.
“The leadership and members of DPR RI Commission III view that the police institution requires a leader who is qualified, professional, and possesses high integrity,” he said.
He added that Commission III hopes this leadership shift will positively impact public trust in the police force.
“Therefore, Commission III hopes that renewing the police leadership system will enhance public trust toward the police force,” Habiburokhman remarked.
Speaker of the DPR RI Puan Maharani subsequently conveyed that following the plenary decision, the results would be forwarded to the President. During the meeting, Puan mentioned that the next phase would be the presidential inauguration.
With this decision, the transition process for the Police Chief position moves to its next stage following congressional approval. Meanwhile, the plenary session also designated the Northern Coast of Java Management Authority as a working partner for House Commission IV and approved an extension for the deliberation of the Industrial Design Bill.
