JAKARTA — The Gadjah Mada University Alumni Family (KAGAMA) Philosophy officially launched the inaugural edition of its “PhiloConnect” discussion forum in Jakarta, a strategic dialogue initiative exploring the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and the human cognitive journey from raw data processing toward substantive wisdom.
This first forum brought together alumni, technology practitioners, academics, and policymakers to address the pervasive disruptions of digital technology across various aspects of daily life and social order.
Urgency of Ethics in the Age of Automation
During the forum, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria highlighted the increasing relevance of philosophy amid the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence. He noted that AI-generated systems and decisions are not purely technical or mathematical in nature, but carry profound ethical consequences and dimensions that strictly require human critical thinking and reflective reasoning.
The capacity of AI to process data at an unprecedented scale is not seen as an automatic replacement for human moral judgment. Without a solid ethical foundation, rapid technological acceleration risks fostering algorithmic bias, overlooking humanitarian values, or generating complex new social dilemmas.
