JAKARTA – Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stated that local legal products must be obeyed by the public as well as parties investing in the regions, as part of efforts to achieve sustainable development.

“Regional regulations (perda) and regional head regulations serve as the legal foundation for determining the direction of development policies in the regions, and those regulations must be complied with,” Supratman said while attending the 48th Anniversary of Palu City at the yard of the Regional Secretariat (Setda) of Palu City, Central Sulawesi, Sunday, September 27, 2026.

He stated that the executive and legislative branches of government must work in alignment when formulating regulations that guide every policy decision for the benefit of regional development.

According to him, the establishment of local legal products also needs to be aligned with national policies so that they do not conflict with higher-level laws and regulations.

“Any policy adopted by a regional government must involve public participation,” he said.

Supratman explained that local legal products provide space for local governments to optimize local potential in order to improve public welfare, in line with the spirit of regional autonomy.

He conveyed that transparent, accountable, and sustainable development cannot be separated from the rule of law, as governance places law as its primary foundation.

Regional governments, he added, are also responsible for the regulations they have issued and must ensure that their implementation remains consistent with higher-level statutory provisions.

“In every development effort, both at the national and regional levels, protection of human rights and social balance should be prioritized for the sake of social justice,” Supratman said.***
