Banda Aceh — Unit V Jatanras of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Banda Aceh Police Department has arrested two men suspected of stealing a resident’s water meter in Gampong Beurawe, Kuta Alam District.
The two suspects, identified by their initials SA (30), a resident of South Aceh, and FM (24), a resident of Pidie, were taken into custody along the riverbank area in Baiturrahman District on Sunday (27/09/2026) at approximately 01:00 WIB.
Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Banda Aceh Police Department, Police Commissioner Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono, stated that the arrests were made following an investigation into a theft report filed by Imran (44), a resident of Beurawe.
The incident occurred on September 3, 2026. The victim discovered that the tap water in his shop had stopped flowing, and upon inspection, found that the water meter bearing number 232635 was missing. Financial losses are estimated at around Rp1.5 million.
During preliminary questioning, both suspects admitted to the theft. They stated that the stolen water meter was sold to a scrap metal collector in Gampong Jawa, Kutaraja District.
Police also disclosed that the suspects confessed to operating across 13 different locations. However, investigators are still probing this confession to verify the specific sites and their involvement in each case.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Banda Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit. Police are also expanding their investigation into the suspected fencing network for stolen water meters and coordinating with the public prosecutor.
