BANDA ACEH – An Acehnese history field trip community, Seuramoe Heritage, held a History Storytelling Competition at the Aceh Cultural Hall, Gampong Mulia, Banda Aceh, Sunday, September 27, 2026. The event was organized in collaboration with the Aceh Cultural Preservation Agency and attended by 10 participants.

Chairman of Seuramoe Heritage, Teuku Wahidoel, stated that the History Storytelling Competition is part of Seuramoe Heritage’s efforts to bring Aceh’s history and culture closer to the younger generation through creative and participatory methods.

“History should not merely be understood as a series of past events, but it also needs to be given meaning and reflected upon for present-day life,” he said.

According to him, the process of retelling history can serve as a medium to foster the young generation’s awareness of exemplary values, brotherhood, responsibility, and the experiences of the Acehnese people in facing various changes and challenges throughout history.

“History gains meaning when the values contained within it can be understood and applied. From history, we learn about what the Acehnese people have gone through and how those experiences can serve as lessons to build a better life,” he said.

Seuramoe Heritage views the effort to introduce history to the younger generation as something that goes beyond merely preserving knowledge about the past.

Furthermore, history can be a source of learning to build a better community life.
According to him, Aceh’s historical experience holds various values that remain relevant for continuous reflection today, including the importance of maintaining brotherhood and peace.

“Retelling history does not mean we are only looking backward. We look at the past to understand who we are, what we have been through, and what values we can carry into the future. From history, we learn to continuously nurture peace, maintain brotherhood, respect differences, and build Aceh with a better spirit,” he revealed.

Since its inception, Seuramoe Heritage has conducted seven field trip editions, including visits to Putroe Phang Park and Gunongan, Peucut Kerkhof, Bustanus Salatin Park and the Proclamation Monument, the Tomb and Residence of Resident Teuku Nyak Arief, Rumoh Cut Nyak Dhien, the Darussalam Kopelma Monument, and Balai Ikrar Lamteh in collaboration with Sopies Sunset Library.

According to Teuku Wahidoel, the field trips are designed not just as site visits, but as learning experiences that combine activities, knowledge, interaction, and reflection.

“Field trips are not just about sightseeing. We can heal while learning history: we get exercise, gain knowledge, expand our experiences, and strengthen our brotherhood,” he said.

For information, in the competition, Riska won 1st Place, followed by Rawdlatul Jannah as 2nd Place, and Alisha Azzahra as 3rd Place.
