BANDA ACEH – Two men, identified by their initials SA (30), a resident of South Aceh, and FM (24), a resident of Pidie, have been arrested by Unit V Jatanras Satreskrim Polresta Banda Aceh for allegedly stealing a resident’s water meter in Gampong Beurawe, Kuta Alam District, Banda Aceh. The two were apprehended in the riverbank area of Baiturrahman District, Banda Aceh, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Banda Aceh Police Chief Senior Commissioner Teguh Priyambodo Nugroho, through Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Commissioner Miftahuda Dizha Fezuono, stated that the arrests were made after police received a report regarding the theft of a water meter belonging to a Gampong Beurawe resident, Imran (44).

“After receiving the victim’s report, the Unit V Jatanras team launched an investigation to reveal the perpetrators of the water meter theft,” Dizha said.

He explained that the incident occurred on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at around 09.00 WIB. At that time, Imran was about to turn on the municipal water supply (PDAM) at his shop in Gampong Beurawe. However, the water was not running.

“The victim then checked the water meter and discovered that the device was missing. The stolen water meter bore the serial number 232635 under the name of H Abdul Manaf. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a loss of approximately Rp 1.5 million,” he stated.

The victim subsequently filed a police report with the Banda Aceh Police under report number LP/B/669/IX/2026/SPKT/Polresta Banda Aceh/Polda Aceh, dated September 3, 2026. Following up on the report, Unit V Jatanras conducted a series of investigations until they obtained information regarding the whereabouts of the two suspects.

He mentioned that officers moved to the riverbank area in Baiturrahman District on Sunday early morning and apprehended SA and FM.

“From the initial interrogation, both confessed to stealing the water meter belonging to the victim, Imran,” Dizha said.

Based on their preliminary confession, he added, the stolen water meter was sold to a scrap metal dealer in Gampong Jawa, Kutaraja District, Banda Aceh. Meanwhile, the proceeds from the sale were used by the suspects to cover their daily living expenses.

On the other hand, he noted that based on initial questioning, the two suspects admitted to having stolen water meters at 13 different locations.

“We are still investigating this confession to confirm the locations, times, and individual involvement of each suspect in the series of thefts,” he added.

Currently, the two suspects have been taken to the Banda Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit for further interrogation and legal processing. According to him, investigators will also expand the probe into the alleged sale of stolen water meters and look into the possibility of additional theft locations.
