Aceh – Indonesia, The controversy surrounding planned mining activities in Samadua District continues to unfold. The South Aceh Regional House of Representatives (DPRK) has now taken official action by demanding a written report from the Regent regarding mining exploration permits in the area.
Separately, DPRK Speaker Hj. Remamishul Azwa reaffirmed her firm stance alongside the local community in opposing the mining project.
In an official letter numbered 170/ dated September 21, 2026, the South Aceh DPRK requested the Regent to promptly provide an update on the council’s recommendations concerning the Mining Business License (IUP) in Samadua.
This letter serves as a follow-up to a previous letter, Number 170/52 dated August 24, 2026, which outlined agreements reached during a Hearing Session (RDP) between the house leadership, all parliamentary commissions, and the Regency Government.
In the letter, the DPRK emphasized four main points: first, ensuring the legality of the IUP, territorial compliance, fulfillment of prerequisites, and permit holders’ adherence to existing regulations.
Second, requesting the local government to facilitate public dissemination and socialization.
Third, given the lack of progress reports to date, the council considers it necessary to obtain information regarding follow-up actions, including coordination with relevant authorities.
Fourth, urging the Regent to submit a comprehensive written report detailing measures taken, outcomes achieved, operational challenges, and upcoming plans.
Speaker of the South Aceh DPRK, who also represents the Tapaktuan – Samadua electoral district, Hj. Remamishul Azwa, SE., Ak., M.E., clarified her position amidst circulating issues. She reiterated that her personal stance has remained unchanged from the start.
“From the beginning, I joined the public in signing the petition against mining operations in Samadua District, and to this day, I stand firmly with the people and constituents in my constituency,” Rema stated.
Nevertheless, in her capacity as DPRK Speaker, Rema explained that institutional actions are executed through formal committee meetings and processes under a collective-collegial framework.
“As the DPRK Speaker, I must carry out institutional functions that are collective and collegial in making every decision, as all institutional decisions are reached jointly,” she emphasized.
Thus, as a representative of Samadua residents, she personally opposes the mining operations to safeguard the environment, water resources, and local livelihoods. Institutionally, the DPRK continues to oversee the issue by demanding accountability from the Regent to ensure legal certainty and prevent public unrest.
The South Aceh DPRK hopes the Regent will respond swiftly to the letter so that the status of the IUP can be transparently clarified to the general public.|yati|
