Aceh – Indonesia, The tradition of learning and studying Islam (beut and meurunoe) in Aceh continues to be preserved through various religious activities integrated with daily community life. One such initiative is the October edition of Beut NU Warong Kupi, held at the Warong Kupi in Gampong Pancasila, Kuta Padang, Meulaboh, on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The event serves as a platform for the public to foster ties and discuss Islamic teachings in a more relaxed atmosphere. This forum also represents an effort to maintain the scholarly traditions that have long flourished within Acehnese society.
Head of the West Aceh Regency Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dr. H. Khairul Azhar, S.Ag., M.A., expressed his appreciation for the implementation of Beut NU Warong Kupi. He assessed that coffee shops hold great potential not only as gathering spots, but also as spaces for advancing knowledge, proselytization (dakwah), and social connection.
“A coffee shop is not merely a place to drink coffee. When filled with Islamic study, knowledge, and social connection, it can transform into a vibrant space for dakwah within the community. The coffee warms us, the knowledge enlightens us, and the fellowship strengthens the ummah,” said Khairul Azhar.
According to Khairul Azhar, learning and studying Islam are integral parts of Aceh’s Islamic heritage that need to be maintained and continuously introduced to the younger generation. Activities like Beut NU Warong Kupi, he noted, allow the public to broaden their knowledge, engage in discussions, remind one another of good deeds, and strengthen Islamic brotherhood.
He also stated that the West Aceh Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs is open to building synergies with Nahdlatul Ulama, traditional Islamic boarding schools (dayah), Islamic scholars, religious counselors, and various community elements to support grassroots religious activities.
Khairul Azhar hopes that Beut NU Warong Kupi will continue to run and evolve as a discussion space to expand Islamic insights, deepen community relations, and preserve Aceh’s scholarly traditions.
