Aceh – Indonesia, A serial thief targeting Electronic Control Unit (ECU) devices from Daihatsu Grand Max vehicles across nine different locations has been arrested by the Jatanras Unit of the Langsa Police Crime Investigation Department.
The suspect, a 39-year-old man with the initials SS hailing from Labuhanbatu Utara Regency, North Sumatra, was apprehended by authorities near an Alfamart on Ahmad Yani Street, Gampong Jawa Depan, Langsa Kota District, Langsa City, on Thursday (10/1/2026) at approximately 02:00 WIB.
The arrest was made following an investigation by the Jatanras Unit into a series of reports regarding ECU thefts within the jurisdiction of the Langsa Police.
Langsa Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Hyrowo, through Head of Criminal Investigation Unit First Inspector Muhammad Abidinsyah, stated on Sunday (10/4/2026) that officers are still investigating the suspect to uncover the full extent of his crime spree.
During the arrest, police conducted a body search and discovered two sharpened, modified impact screwdriver bits and an L-wrench, allegedly used as break-in tools for the thefts.
Police then carried out an inspection and search at the suspect’s lodging at the Langsa In Hotel.
Under interrogation, SS admitted to stealing Daihatsu Grand Max ECUs from several other locations across Langsa City.
In total, the theft operations spanned across nine crime scenes.
Some of the locations mentioned include Lhok Banie Village in West Langsa District, Sungai Lueng Village and a local workshop in East Langsa District, Lubuk Punti Village in East Langsa District, as well as the Perumnas housing area in West Langsa District.
Meanwhile, three other reports originated from the parking lot of CV Distribusindo Bintang/Gudang Distribusindo Susu Chimory in Baroh Langsa Lama Village, a residential garage on H Agus Salim Street in Bata Hamlet, Alue Beurawe Village, and a carpet laundry shop on Veteran Street, Gampong Baro, Langsa Lama District.
In this case, police also seized several pieces of evidence, including a Honda Beat motorcycle, two modified impact screwdriver bits, a T-wrench, a jacket, a bag containing clothes, shoes, a helmet, a wristwatch, and two hats.
The suspect and the seized evidence were subsequently handed over to the Langsa Police Crime Investigation Department’s duty unit for further legal processing.
Police are continuing to investigate the possibility of other targeted locations involved in the ECU theft spree.
