Aceh – Indonesia, The Banda Aceh City Government now has two Islamic Sharia Supervision Posts in the tourist areas of Banda Aceh City’s Kilometer Zero Point and Ulee Lheue. Both posts were established to maintain order while preventing violations of Islamic Sharia law in areas frequently visited by the public.
The two Islamic Sharia Supervision Posts were inaugurated by the Mayor of Banda Aceh, Illiza Saโaduddin Djamal, on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
The inauguration of the Islamic Sharia Supervision Post at Banda Aceh City’s Kilometer Zero Point was also attended by the Vice Mayor of Banda Aceh, Afdhal Khalilullah, members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), and several officials from the Banda Aceh City Government.
Illiza stated that the presence of the two posts is not intended to intimidate visiting tourists. According to her, the posts represent the government’s active presence in maintaining, caring for, and protecting the public.
Officers from the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and Wilayatul Hisbah (Sharia Police) will be assigned in shifts to guard both posts 24 hours a day.
โThe development of Banda Aceh City is not solely oriented toward physical construction, such as buildings, parks, or economic centers. Development must also be directed toward human and character development,โ Illiza said, as quoted from the official Banda Aceh Diskominfo website on Monday, October 5, 2026.
According to Illiza, the Banda Aceh City Government aims to build a modern and advanced city without abandoning its Islamic identity, customs, and culture.
Therefore, the establishment of the Islamic Sharia Supervision Posts at Banda Aceh City’s Kilometer Zero Point and the Ulee Lheue area serves as a key commitment by the city government to preserve these values, particularly in popular tourist spots.
